After analyzing the <strong>web performance<\/strong> of 100+ top online retailers on Christmas, we decided to repeat the same analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Just like for our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.internetvista.com\/en\/christmas-2017-ecommerce-webperf\/\">previous performance report<\/a>, we looked at the same metrics: the uptime &amp; speed.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Result&#8230; 15.716 minutes of total downtime!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Converting it and it&#8217;s like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">closing your shop during 11 straight days!<\/span> Our panel gathers the most visited online stores in Belgium and France in 10 diferents sectors. Comparing to Christmas, the number of sites affected by downtime increased by 44%! It seems that they are not aware about\u00a0\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.internetvista.com\/en\/ecommerce-monitoring-tips\/#why-monitoring-ecommerce\">why monitoring is crucial<\/a><\/strong> for an e-commerce site&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>H&amp;M&#8217;s site is a great example. Their page response time hasn&#8217;t got better since our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.internetvista.com\/en\/category\/webperf-studies\/\">last studies<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the <strong>overall speed performance is good<\/strong> for most of the websites monitored. According to our data, the electronics and clothing industry seems to have put a lot of efforts into page speed. The data collected in terms of uptime rate and response time come from our monitoring tool.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Most visited e-shops:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beshopping.be\/products\/book\/beshopping100-third-edition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belgium<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediametrie.fr\/internet\/communiques\/barometre-trimestriel-de-l-audience-du-e-commerce-en-france-2eme-trimestre-2017.php?id=1748\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">France<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/financial\/amazon-walmart-top-ecommerce-retailers-10383750\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Element monitored:<\/strong>\u00a0Homepage<\/li>\n<li><strong>Checks frequency:\u00a0<\/strong>1 minute<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tests performed:<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetvista.com\/en\/internet-monitoring-center-selection.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9 monitoring centers<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"3\">\u00a0The average uptime remains worrying!<\/h2>\n<p>Many online retailers counts on <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.internetvista.com\/en\/ecommerce-monitoring-tips\/#key-events\">key events<\/a> to boost their online revenues.<\/p>\n<p>We have clearly seen that the <strong>uptime rate decreased<\/strong> during those crucial dates.\u00a0As a matter of fact, the amount of websites impacted increased significantly from Christmas to the end of January.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the big e-shops have a fast site, loading in less than 0.1 second. On the other hand, our study showed that still too many have <strong>reliability issues<\/strong>.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Maybe some of them are hosted by OVH&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The french hosting provider was down (again) during the January sales. Your online store might not be as big as H&amp;M but <strong>you are not immune to downtime!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Monitoring your home page is one step to insure your e-commerce reliability but you shouldn&#8217;t stop there.
