The email waits in an inbox, the SMS lights up a phone on silent, and the first person to notice is a customer at 8 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Monitoring was never the weak link. The weak link was getting the alert to someone who is awake, responsible and able to act. Until now, closing that gap meant adding a separate incident tool such as PagerDuty behind a webhook. Today it is built into internetvista.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Phone call alerts: the alert that wakes you up<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">A phone call gets through where an email or an SMS goes unnoticed. Add a phone number as an alert medium, and internetvista calls it as soon as one of your applications goes down.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>A clear voice message.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> The call says which application is down and why, in the language you chose for the medium.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Press 1 to take charge.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> One key acknowledges the incident, and reminders and escalation stop for the whole team.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Down and back up.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> You are called when the application goes down and again when it recovers. Warnings never trigger a call.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Any phone.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> It works with any mobile or landline, with no app to install.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>On-call schedules: the right person, at the right time<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">Not everyone should be woken up for every outage. Tell internetvista who is on duty, and it alerts that person first.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Responders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> are the people who can be alerted, each with their own media: phone, SMS, email, Slack.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rotations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> hand the duty over automatically, daily or weekly, on the day and at the time you choose, in your time zone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The On-call page<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> shows at a glance who is on duty now and who takes over next.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Escalation policies: nobody reacts, the next level is alerted<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">An escalation policy decides who is alerted, in what order and how often, until someone takes charge. Here is a typical night with a two-level policy:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>00:00.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> The checkout page goes down. The on-call developer gets a phone call and an SMS.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>00:05, 00:15, 00:35.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> Nobody has acknowledged, so the alerts are repeated at growing intervals: enough to be noticed, never a flood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>00:15.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> Still no acknowledgement after the 15-minute delay, so level 2, the team lead, is called as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>00:18.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\"> The team lead presses 1. Reminders and escalation stop for everyone, and the incident shows who took charge and when.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">You set the delay of each level and how quickly reminders repeat. Apply a policy to all your applications in one click, make it the default for new ones, or give an application its own.
