If only they&#8217;d have followed and applied our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.internetvista.com\/en\/ecommerce-monitoring-tips\/#tips\">monitoring tips<\/a>, they&#8217;d probably have saved a lot of money.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve monitored the web performance of 130 ecommerce sites in total on Black Friday. In fact, <strong>10 out of 130<\/strong> sites monitored faced major breakdowns and counted over than <strong>18 hours of downtime<\/strong> all together!<\/p>\n<p>When looking at the stats, it seems that the most impacted websites are from Belgium at first sights&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But they&#8217;re not!<\/p>\n<p>Only <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2 out 10<\/span> most impacted sites are Belgian. The outage not only stroke the homepage but the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">checkout process,<\/span> meaning that no one was able to proceed the orders&#8230; and people let them know on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/guillaumeeouzan\/status\/934098608848240640\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[alert type=&#8221;danger&#8221; icon-size=&#8221;hide-icon&#8221;]<strong>Moral of the story: <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.internetvista.com\/en\/ecommerce-monitoring-tips\/#3\">Avoid a broken checkout<\/a> by using a transaction monitoring!<\/strong>[\/alert]<\/p>\n<h3>Other major outages spotted on the web<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Macy&#8217;s<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u26a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Total time in error:<\/span> few hours<\/p>\n<p>The retailer&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.fr\/us\/macys-credit-card-system-crashes-black-friday-report-2017-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">payment system had crashed<\/span><\/a><\/strong> on Black Friday in a few places across the U.S. People were not able to use debit, credit or even gift&#8217;s card!<\/p>\n<p>The outage started around noon and lasted a few hours before going back to normal. It seemed that the breakdown also affected <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julldomin\/status\/934134873585045504\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Macy&#8217;s website<\/a> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LaryssaSimpson\/status\/934149859455614976\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">app<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Lowe<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u26a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Total time in error:<\/span> around 3 hours<\/p>\n<p>The home improvement retailer&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/11\/24\/news\/companies\/black-friday-websites-down-2017\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website went down<\/a> early in the morning. Again, consumers went on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/philmilaustin\/status\/934072989582323712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> to report the issue. The site went back to normal around 11 a.m. The outage was caused by an unexpected massive web traffic due to Black Friday deals promoted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Apple Store\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u26a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Total time in error:<\/span> 4 hours and 6 minutes<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve noticed an outage at 9 p.m (GMT+1) on 23\/11\/17, one day prior to Black Friday. The apple store was down, returning an error message (503 &#8211; service unavailable). The site was available again around 1 a.m (GMT+1).<\/p>\n<p>While many online retailers would freak out, Apple doesn&#8217;t care. In fact,\u00a0they used downtime as a marketing strategy. For instance <strong>Bestbuy.com<\/strong> takes almost <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\">4 seconds<\/span><\/strong> to completely loads its website.
